WPC 2023

WPC 2023 RESULTS

The Wetland Photo Contest (WPC) is an annual photo contest organized by the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP) with the intention to raise awareness and create engagement around the importance of wetlands of the Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry bioregion. There is an urgent need to understand how wetlands are key spaces to maintain ecological balance and how we can take action to reduce the damage caused due to ignorance. Every year February 2nd is celebrated as World Wetlands Day, and this year the theme is “Revive and restore degraded wetlands”.

The French Institute of Pondicherry is launching the 5th Wetland Photo Contest this year under the same theme. There are four categories:

  1. Wetland pollution: Included in this category are photos showing wetlands in Tamil Nadu or the Puducherry region that are damaged, polluted or contaminated by human activities.
  2. Natural wetlands: Included in this category are photos showing coastal wetlands (salt marshes, estuaries, mangroves, lagoons and coral reefs) or inland wetlands (marshes, lakes, rivers, floodplains and swamps) in Tamil Nadu or the Puducherry region, which appear to be unspoilt, unaltered by human activity.
  3. Human-made wetlands: Included in this category are photos showing fish ponds, rice paddies and salt pans with or without their inhabitants and users, including farmlands and irrigation infrastructures in rural or urban areas in Tamil Nadu or the Puducherry region.
  4. Fauna and Flora of the wetlands: Included in this category are photos showing any plant or animal from the wetlands of Tamil Nadu or the Puducherry region.
