ARTICLE 1 – PRESENTATION OF THE COMPETITION
As part of the fifth Pondicherry Heritage Festival from January 29 to February 12, 2020, a free photographic competition is organized by the French Institute of Pondicherry, open to all, on the theme of Wetlands and Biodiversity in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Union Territory. It aims to raise public awareness of the rich cultural and natural heritage values of regional wetlands.
The organisers of the Pondicherry Heritage Festival are People for Pondicherry’s Heritage, INTACH and PondyCAN. The festival is supported by the Departments of Art & Culture and Tourism of the Government of Pondicherry.
The French Institute of Pondicherry is a partner of the Festival and the organiser of the Photo competition with the funding support of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
ARTICLE 2 – THEME AND CATEGORIES
Theme: Wetlands and Biodiversity.
The contest includes 5 categories:
- LANDSCAPES AND NATURAL SPACES – Ambient photography of a landscape of a wetland in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions.
- LANDSCAPES AND HUMANS – Ambient photography of a landscape of a wetland and its users or inhabitants and/or infrastructures in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions.
- FAUNA (Mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles) – Photograph of a species present on a site of a wetland in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions.
- SMALL FAUNA (Butterflies, dragonflies, and other insects) – Photograph of a species present on a site of a wetland in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions.
- FLORA – Photograph of a botanical species present on a site of a wetland in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions.
ARTICLE 3 – CONDITIONS OF PHOTO SHOOTING
Participants undertake to respect the natural areas and not disturb wild species being photographed. In the case of human presence in the photograph, the author agrees to have the shooting permissions of the people present on the image. The jury reserves the right to exclude any photograph that is degrading to people or that does not have the permission of the people photographed. In the case of photography in a private space or protected areas, the author agrees to have the permissions of the owners or managers of the spaces concerned.
In case of doubt about these elements of ethics, the jury reserves the right to not retain participation.
ARTICLE 4 – CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE COMPETITION
Participation is free and, open to everyone from 12 years (authorization signed by parents has to be sent by email when sending the photos), amateurs or professionals. The participant will have to send a single photograph per category. A photograph cannot claim to participate in more than two categories. Each photo must be accompanied by the coordinates of the exact place where the photograph was made, and the date of shooting.Participation in the contest is done by sending digital files with references of the author and his photograph, according to the conditions indicated in the articles 5 and 6.
ARTICLE 5 – MANDATORY INFORMATION FOR ANY PARTICIPATION
To be validated, each photographic file must be accompanied by the following mentions:
- First name and Family name of the author;
- Telephone number and email of the author;
- Category in which the photograph is proposed;
- Specific name of the place, and date of the shooting;
- Name of the plant or animal species, when identified;
- The mention “I authorize the French Institute of Pondicherry to reproduce this photograph for the purposes of valorization of the Wetland Photo Contest 2019”;
- The mention “I have read the contest rules and I accept the conditions of participation”.

ARTICLE 6 – TECHNICAL CONDITIONS AND FILE DELIVERY COORDINATES
Sending digital files is done directly by email or by a server of large files (GoogleDrive, Wetransfer, Drop Box, etc.) to the email address indicated below.
- Accepted files are jpg/jpeg.
- The contest is organized exclusively in color photography.
- Files should not be retouched, or include any editing or overprinting, apart from the conventional optimization of light, contrast and color.
- The definition of the image should be at least 3000 pixels in long edge, and definition of 300 dpi min for sending at the following address: firstname.lastname@example.org
- A high definition original image should be ready, it will be asked only to the award-winners to make prints for display.
The jury reserves the right to contact the author in case of dispute about the technical configuration of the file or the origin of the photograph. Any step in this direction has the effect of suspending the author’s participation pending its response.

ARTICLE 7 – DEADLINE FOR PARTICIPATION AND COMPETITION RULES
The deadline for mailings is 15 JANUARY 2020 at midnight. The date and the time of reception of the mail being authentic. The jury is sovereign for the validation of the shipments. All entries will be confirmed by email.

ARTICLE 8 – AWARD OF THE COMPETITION AND PUBLICATION OF RESULTS
- Three prizes per category
- A grand prize of all categories
Winners will be rewarded with prizes of a total value of 50,000 INR. No prize certificate can be exchanged or converted into cash. The name of the beneficiary cannot be changed under any circumstances.
Prizes will be announced on the website: http://www.wetlandphotocontest.wordpress.com, February, 1st, 2020. Each award-winning participant will receive an invitation to the award ceremony during the Pondicherry Heritage Festival on Saturday, 1st February, 2020.
ARTICLE 9 – JURY AND SELECTION CRITERIA
The jury is composed of scientists, activists, professional photographers, and naturalists. Jury members cannot participate in the photo contest. It will meet the 17th of January 2020.
Selection criteria are: Aesthetic quality; Technical aspect; Artistic interest; Naturalistic interest; Ethics and valuation of environments and species; Geographical area concerned; Theme keeping.
A preselection is carried out, after validation of the participations and following the 5 categories. A second selection determines the finalists of the contest by category. The jury is sovereign and has the right to refuse a photograph in case of dispute on one or more criteria.
Suspension of category
The jury reserves the right to suspend a category for lack of participation or litigation concerning the photographs transmitted.
ARTICLE 10 – RESULTS
The authors of the selected photographs will be contacted by email before 25th of January 2020. A file in high definition will be asked to the authors to make prints. These prints will be exhibited during the Pondicherry Heritage Festival on 2nd February 2020 at the French Institute of Pondicherry.
Date and place of the awards ceremony
The proclamation of the results will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00 am at the French Institute of Pondicherry. The award-winning photographs will be published on http://www.wetlandphotocontest.wordpress.com, and on social media. A meeting with the authors will be proposed during the exhibition.
ARTICLE 11 – PUBLICATION OF THE COMPETITION
The proclamation of the results implies the authorization, by the authors, of the publication of their works on the media of communication of the Pondicherry Heritage Festival organisers including the French Institute of Pondicherry and in different media in the exclusive frame of the Pondicherry Heritage Festival. The authors undertake to authorize the presentation of their photos, as part of the World Wetlands Day 2020 and Pondicherry Heritage Festival, and at subsequent exhibitions to promote the contest. The organisers in turn ensure the respect of copyrights, giving due credit to the authors.
The results will be published in social media such as facebook pages and on the websites of the organisers and IFP.
ARTICLE 12 – DISPUTE RESULTS AND REMEDIES
Participation in the contest implies acceptance of the whole regulation. The reception e-mail constitutes the acceptance of the rules. In case of dispute or doubt about the quality and origin of the photograph, the jury reserves the right to eliminate a participant.
The jury is sovereign in the choice of preselected and finalist photographs. Participation in the photo contest implies acceptance of all conditions of the contest rules and results. No dispute can be taken into account.
ARTICLE 13 – PERSONAL DATA MANAGEMENT
The information provided by the participants may be used in the context of the 2020 photo contest. In all cases, participants benefit from the contest organizer rights of access, interrogation, opposition and rectification, and delete for the data concerning them, on simple request.

ARTICLE 14 – ORGANIZATION OF THE COMPETITION
The organizer of the 2nd Wetland Photo Contest is French Institute of Pondicherry, 11 Saint Louis Street, Puducherry, 605001, India.
ARTICLE 15 – DEPOSIT OF PHOTOGRAPHS
The French Institute of Pondicherry is the depository of the exhibitions of the photo competition. As part of the promotion of the contest, it may be required to disseminate the archives of previous photo competitions with the copyright notice of the photographs.
